For my master's thesis I'm trying to: import a mesh file (.stl) as a result of a 3D Scan into Inventor as a solid shape, process boolean operations to it, and later 3D print it. I'm a student from Singapore and have been using Inventor for about 2-3 months, and I work on projects related to sheet metal and computer components to make computer outer frames and use reference STL models to check if everything fits into place. I have a student license for Autodesk Inventor 2013 and would like to download the mesh enabler app - a lot of our files are from DICOM scan images and the segmenting results in STL files. The technology preview has graduated from Autodesk Labs, and a non-expiring version is available in the Autodesk App Exchange for Autodesk Subscription customers.Īccess to goodies like these is one of the benefits of subscription. This tool is brilliant, essentially, it allows users to convert files like STLs into solid or surface models. The previous post exporting3dsmaxmodelstoinventor describes how to do this using the dwg file format. The Mesh Enabler for 20 adds the ability to post process the imported mesh data to convert the mesh features to Inventor Base features. Another way of bringing mesh data into Inventor is available on The 2013 version of the Mesh Enabler for Autodesk Inventor lets you import STL files and then convert those into base features.
In addition to Catia files, Inventor 2013 can import mesh data from STL files and from JT files. As shipped, Inventor 2012 can import mesh data from Catia files.
The Mesh Enabler enables Inventor users to work with imported Mesh data.
